My version of a trophy wife must be an impeccable cook, so this year I vow to make at least 52 new recipes. The rules for this quest include: must follow the recipe to a T, recipe must use an ingredient I have not used prior to 2011, at least 50% of the recipes must be heart healthy (helping me on my weight loss quest), and finally the presentation of the dish must be restaurant quality (trophy wives know how to make everything beautiful).
For my first dish I attempted a recipe I found on the Food Network website. If you want to learn, why not head straight to the pros? The Stuffed Chicken Divan w/ a Sherry Dijon Sauce looked delicious and at only 340 calories and 10 g of protein per serving, why not? The recipe was ranked Intermediate, and called for one ingredient I'd never heard of (gruyere cheese) and one I rarely use (fresh thyme). I really need to step up my game in the spice department. And who knew they sell cooking sherry at the grocery store? It surprised me to find something with so much alcohol available on the shelf for purchase without an ID. Although if any teenager is desperate enough to drink something with that much salt, more power to 'em!
OK - so I did alter one thing on the recipe (breaking the rules on day 1 - great start 'eh?) Instead of stuffing it like a roll, I sliced a pocket through the whole breast. It cooked faster and I thought it yielded a prettier final product. The recipe itself wasn't too difficult, but I was busy for the entire 30 minutes. Also, the dishes were a bit intense afterwards. But yummy cooking requires some sacrifices right?
After finishing the dish I took care on the presentation. Not perfect, but not bad for week 1. And the recipe gets 5 stars. Yummy!
